Graduation ceremony for the first graduates of Energy Transition studies

The first graduates of the Energy Transition postgraduate studies received their diplomas. The studies are co-created by the Silesian University of Technology, the West Pomeranian University of Technology, and the industry leader – Energo-Complex.

The ceremony took place on June 28th, 2025, with the participation of the authorities of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the Energo-Complex company, and lecturers. The studies were completed by 28 people from various sectors of the economy.

- The participants of the studies were not only people from the energy sector, but also representatives of local governments or various companies dealing with energy funding and consulting - said Dr Eng. Rafał Setlak, Vice-Dean for Student Affairs and Education at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, where the classes were held.

- The issues raised during the classes were related to energy, power engineering, energy processing and reduction, i.e. the area of our competence, which is why the studies took place at this faculty - adds the Dean.

The energy transition applies not only to the energy sector, but to the entire economy. It is not only a necessity, but also an opportunity for economic, social, and technological development.

- We are dependent on energy at every stage of our operations, from a simple matter, i.e. shopping, to very complex processes related to, for example, maintaining health or providing electricity in the operating room,- says the head of the Energy Transformation studies, Dr Eng. Krzysztof Bodzek.

- The aim of these studies was to show a broader perspective. Of course, we focused on selected technical issues, because we are a technical university, but our lecturers presented them a little more broadly, taking into account legal and social aspects," adds Dr. Eng. Bodzek.

The process of changing the way energy is obtained, processed, and consumed requires broad cooperation between the world of science and business. That is why the studies are carried out in a consortium which, in addition to our University, includes: the West Pomeranian University of Technology and the industry leader – Energo-Complex from Piekary Śląskie. The company effectively uses photovoltaic installations, wind farms, energy storage and induction boilers, creating a unique company that can operate fully independently in terms of energy.

- A university cannot function without industry, and industry without science. Our company cooperates with several universities in the field of electrical issues. When we have a problem, we solve it together, build something and implement it in the industry – says Marek Szrot, President of Energo-Complex.

The studies lasted two semesters, i.e. 220 hours, of which over 100 were practical classes, including laboratories and projects. Each of the students wrote a final project under the supervision of industry practitioners.

- The projects concerned, among others, energy communities, energy audits, issues related to energy converters, building automation, protection automation, cable pooling, flexibility services, technical and economic analysis of renewable energy sources and biogas power plants – enumerates Dr Eng.  Krzysztof Bodzek.

One of the graduates of the Energy Transformation postgraduate studies is Jonasz Latko from Tauron Dystrybucja.

- I decided to study this because the challenges imposed on us by modern industry and the guidelines of the European Union mean that we have to adapt our work to what this changing environment expects from us. For me, these studies also had a personal dimension – I wanted to broaden my worldview and perspective with which I came here. It was a very interesting experience for me, - emphasizes Jonasz Latko.

-The energy transition has been a topical topic for several years and at the same time a very developmental one, - said Marlena Kędzior, energy advisor to the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Wrocław. - I decided to study in this field to increase my professional competences, especially since in my work I deal with topics related to energy transformation, both in terms of civic energy and thermal modernization of buildings - she points out.

-We are already using the topics discussed during these studies in our work, - says Roman Papiór, energy advisor from the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Wrocław. - We are expected not only to have competence and help in this area, but also to provide independent advice, which is why technical preparation is essential for us, - he adds.
