Graduates of the Silesian University of Technology with prizes in the competition of the Polish Space Agency
Graduates of the Institute of Physics of the Silesian University of Technology - Eng. Rafał Osadnik and Eng. Radosław Paluch - became laureates of the competition for the best diploma theses in the field of space research, organized by the Polish Space Agency.
Eng. Rafał Osadnik received the 2nd degree award for the work entitled "Reconstruction and analysis of weightlessness in laboratory conditions with the use of clinostat", and Eng. Radosław Paluch received an additional award for the work entitled "Design and implementation of a solar simulator for applications in satellite technologies".
Both graduates were laureates in the category of engineering and bachelor theses, to which a total of 23 submitted works were sent. These were engineering diploma theses in the field of technical physics - practical profile, delivered under the supervision of prof. dr hab. Tomasz Błachowicz. Currently, these graduates are studying at the Gdańsk University of Technology.
Rafał Osadnik - "Reconstruction and weightlessness analysis in laboratory conditions with the use of a clinostat".
The work consists of two complementary areas. The analytical part deals with the simulation and analysis of dynamic and kinematic parameters of devices for producing, in laboratory conditions, the state of weightlessness. In the experimental part, the clinostat with its control system was made and launched. The works required the author to have extensive knowledge in the field of automation, signal theory, computer science and practical skills related to the construction of the prototype.
Radosław Paluch - "Design and implementation of a solar simulator for applications in satellite technologies".
The work consisted in designing and manufacturing a light source with a spectral distribution corresponding to the sunlight that occurs in orbit around the Earth. The constructed system has the option of opto-mechanical coupling with a vacuum chamber to conduct tests with solar cells operating in orbit. During the implementation of the engineering work, various light sources were tested and an appropriate system of filtration and regulation of the spectral composition of the simulator was made, meeting the requirements imposed by the applicable standards for this type of devices. The work is an example of a systemic approach to an engineering project, including all stages, from the conception, project execution, modelling and finally the production and commissioning of the device.
The results of the national competition were announced during the Students' Space Conference, which took place on October 20-21 at the Wrocław University of Technology. 49 papers from 19 national research units were submitted to the fifth edition of the competition.
