Graduate of the Faculty of Architecture with the ICOMOS Grand Prize

Agnieszka Janas, a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at the Silesian University of Technology, received one of three equal main prizes in the ICOMOS International Jan Zachwatowicz Competition for the best master's theses of students, dealing with the issues of protection of cultural heritage in 2021.

The work of Agnieszka Janas MSc, Eng., Arch. is entitled: "Agata's farm - Conservation and adaptation project of the half-timbered building complex in Wigancice Żytawskie for agritourism purposes".  Ms Agnieszka Janas graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and is currently continuing her engineering studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

- The subject of the work was a study and conservation design for a historical complex of half-timbered houses in Wigancice Żytawskie in Upper Lusatia. The characteristic timber-framed and clay-filled houses are a valuable cultural heritage of the region and require preservation care. The eponymous "Agata's farm" is the only preserved original complex of half-timbered houses in the area of Wigancice Żytawskie, said professor Magdalena Żmudzińska-Nowak, under whose supervision the work was carried out.

The award ceremony was held on May 10 this year at the Palace on the Isle, in Royal Łazienki in Warsaw. The awards were presented by the General Conservator of Polish Historical Monuments, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Jarosław Sellin, and the President of the Polish National Committee ICOMOS, Professor Bogusław Szmygin.

The founders of the award are Mr. and Mrs. Krystyna Zachwatowicz-Wajda and Andrzej Wajda.
