The competition develops year by year, broadening its thematic scope and attracting an ever-increasing group of ambitious students for whom participation is not only prestigious, but also a chance for easier access to studying at one of the best technical universities in Poland.

- By organizing this competition, we encourage the most talented to study at the Silesian University of Technology. The University is keen to get involved in education at the secondary school level; we organise various competitions, such as the “Polytechnic Project,” during which pupils complete tasks under the supervision of scientists in the University’s laboratories. In this way, we want to show them the Silesian University of Technology from the inside, develop their interests, passions and invite them to us - said Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education, Prof. Anna Chrobok.

This year, 49 people were awarded in the competition "For the Golden Index of the Silesian University of Technology". The winners include students from 25 schools, not only from the Silesian Voivodeship, but also from cities such as Kraków, Mielec, Oleśnica, Leżajsk, Krosno, Nowy Targ and Nowy Sącz.

Most awards were won by pupils of the Academic Secondary Comprehensive School of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice.

- Seven pupils of our school won 9 awards, because two of them became double winners - said ALO director Dr Małgorzata Borysławska. - I think that the success lies in close relationships between the University and our school. For our pupils, the Silesian University of Technology is such a natural environment, they are eager to get involved in various activities organized by the University, such as PBL projects or the mentoring program "Rozwiń Skrzydła" - adds Dr Borysławska.

- I wanted to test my knowledge and not be stressed during the recruitment process - said Maksymilian Kula, a fourth-grade pupil of ALO in Gliwice, who won two awards - a place in a chosen field of study and preferential points during recruitment.

Szymon Kurzok from the 1st Secondary Comprehensive School in Tarnowskie Góry is also happy about the additional points during recruitment. – My physics teacher convinced me to take part in the competition. And I figured why not? I can only gain something. And it worked. In the future I would like to study automation and robotics or computer science at the Silesian University of Technology – said Szymon.

- I think that this competition is a very good initiative because young people can gain additional points for recruitment in such a stress-free way - added Szymon's mother - Celina Kurzok.

Among the winners were also pupils from lower classes, such as Jakub Fraś - a second-year pupil at ALO. – I wanted to test my abilities and skills in the field of exact sciences and although I am only in the second year, additional points during recruitment are an important benefit if I decide to go to the Silesian University of Technology – emphasized Jakub.

In this year’s, ninth edition of the competition “For the Golden Index of the Silesian University of Technology,” 14 first-degree prizes, 16 second-degree prizes and 19 third-degree prizes were awarded.
