Faculty of Chemistry Open Day – discover your future with chemistry!

Almost 300 secondary school pupils from Gliwice, Zabrze, Chorzów and Kędzierzyn Koźle took part in the Open Day of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Silesian University of Technology. During the event there was a lecture, a demonstration of chemical experiments, students also visited laboratories.

“We want to show the pupils that the chemical industry is very popular in Poland and is developing strongly. The application of chemistry is very wide both in industry and everyday life. Therefore, there is no shortage of employers who can provide employment to graduates of our faculty. Currently, we can boast of a very high employment rate of our graduates in the industry” – said Dr Eng. Piotr Latos, Vice-Dean for Infrastructure and Organization at the Faculty of Chemistry.

The Open Day began with a lecture entitled “Batteries for bacteria, or how to obtain electricity from bacteria and waste,” which was delivered by Dr Hab. Eng. Katarzyna Krukiewicz, Prof. SUT. There was also a demonstration of chemical experiments, after which the youth learned what the rules of recruitment to the University are and what fields of study the Faculty of Chemistry offers.

- “I hope that during today's event we will encourage students to study at our faculty. We offer a wide range of courses, diploma paths, activities also outside the university.” - said PhD student Kornelia Kubies,

- “We also have science clubs, we carry out various projects and workshops in which you can develop your skills, so I encourage you to study with us, especially since chemistry is everywhere and it is worth getting to know it” - added Julia Kolińska, PhD student at the Faculty of Chemistry. 

At the end of the Open Day, the pupils visited laboratories and visited stands presenting the application of chemistry in various industries.
