Expert debate “One Planet. One Life"

How can science and new technologies help in the fight against adverse environmental and climate changes? Experts and practitioners will provide answers to this question from the perspective of the water and energy crisis or the increasing deficit of production raw materials during the conference "Technology for the climate. Science - Business - Local Government.” The event will be part of the 6th edition of the 'One Planet. One Life” of Gazeta Wyborcza - October 24th, 2022. at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Katowice. It will be broadcast on Wyborcza.pl and on the "Wyborcza" Facebook profiles.

Effective methods of saving water, electricity and fuels are a necessity today, also in order to influence the quality of the environment. This can be achieved by using efficient technologies or by optimizing production processes. In order to spread public awareness on this subject, the team of "Gazeta Wyborcza" and Wyborcza.pl as part of the "OnePlanet. One Life” organizes the conference “Technology for the Climate. Science - Business - Self-government,” to which they invited experts and practitioners with unique knowledge on the subject.

The conference will be opened by Maciej Kawecki's inaugural lecture entitled “From Čapek to Lem. The world of algorithms. Power without borders.” Then, the program of the event will include three expert discussion panels.

In the first one - "New fuels and clean energy" - the speakers will talk about the need to achieve climate neutrality, decarbonise the energy sector and increase the use of renewable energy so that we, as a society, can count on a stable energy supply in the near future. The second part of the conference - "Cleansing the Earth" - will be devoted to the ecological disaster on the Odra River and the need to work out ways to take care of clean water and air, as well as reducing waste throughout Poland. The last panel - "Saving resources" - will concern technological solutions for saving water, electricity and fuels. Experts will talk, among others, about effective technologies and optimization of production processes, as well as about the importance of our habits and behaviours.

Individual debates will be conducted by journalists from "Wyborcza": Dariusz Kortko, Przemysław Jedlecki and Dominika Wantuch.

The conference will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Katowice, and its broadcast will be available online on the general and Katowice Facebook profiles of "Gazeta Wyborcza", as well as on the Wyborcza.pl website. More information - here .

The event takes place as part of the 6th  edition of the "OnePlanet.OneLife" initiative, an environmental project of the editors of "Gazeta Wyborcza" and Wyborcza.pl, implemented from June 2020. Its purpose is to publicize important topics related to a specific climate problem and human impact on the environment. In previous years, the campaign of "Wyborcza" revolved around the role of water, food, air and waste in the climate crisis.

The project has been running under the slogan "Technology for the climate" since April this year. and will end in November. In a series of articles, podcasts, meetings and videos, authors, hosts and visitors ask how science and new technologies can help combat adverse environmental and climate change.

Materials published as part of the series can be read on the Wyborcza.pl website, on the action website - Wyborcza.pl/JednaPlanetaJednoZycie and in the pages of "Gazeta Wyborcza".
