Experimenting with architecture!
From the 5th to 7th of December, the Fifth International and Interdisciplinary Conference Senses in Architecture, Urban Landscaping and Design took place. The conference was co-organized by the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology.
Experimentation seems to be an attractive, integral, and indispensable element of the design process – objects, spaces, and entire environments. It takes many forms, involves many aspects, occurs in many contexts, and has many consequences.
This year, experimenting became a leading theme of the International and Interdisciplinary Conference Senses in Architecture, Urban Landscaping and Design.
Experiments were conducted in theory and practice. The experiments concerned design, architecture, and urban planning; experimentation broadly understood, open and hidden; interdisciplinary, trans-cultural, global, and regional. Its costs and benefits, its environmental, cultural, social, and economic consequences, health and legal issues and implementation difficulties.
Among the speakers and participants of the conference were representatives of science and practicing architects from Poland and the world, among others: Tomasz M. Rutkowski (RIKEN Centre for Advanced Intelligence Project, Japan), Jarosław Kapuściński (Stanford University, USA ), Eva Alvarez and Carlos Gomez (carlos gomez+eva alvarez arquitectes, Spain) Joanna and Wojciech Małecki (Małecki design office, Poland), Yui and Takaharu Tezuka (Tezuka Architects, Japan), Davide Ruzzon (TA Tuning Architecture, Italy), Michael Folwer (TU Berlin, Germany).
The event was held in English and was addressed to researchers, architects, PhD students, students, public administration employees, passionate about design and architecture.
The event was co-organized by the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Silesia in Katowice, the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology, the Society of Polish Urbanists Silesia Branch and SARP.
