Exhibition of students of the Faculty of Architecture in Italy

On September 27th, at the Angevin-Aragonese Castle in Gaeta (Lazio, Italy), there took place the opening of the exhibition entitled “Architecture & Landscape in Conservation Design: Cassino-Folcara and Gaeta Castle”, which is the result of a research and didactic project carried out as part of the “Conservation Design” course in the Department of Theory, Design and History of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology.

The cooperation of the Faculty of Architecture with the University of Cassino has been going on for over a decade. Universities jointly implement research and teaching projects, double doctorates, and publications.

This year’s exhibition was part of the event: “European Research Night” 2024-2025 organized by the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (UNICAS) in cooperation with the European University of Technology (EUT+) as part of the European Commission’s Science, Technology and Research for Ethical Engagement Translated in Society” (S.T.R.E.T.) HORIZON-MSCA-2023-citizens-01 project.

Two groups of projects were presented at the exhibition. The first is the modernization and expansion of the Folcara academic campus and the integration of its area into the structure of the city of Cassino; the second is the adaptation of the Gaeta Castle for the needs of the new Faculty of Cultural Heritage UNICAS.

- The exhibition aroused great interest of invited guests and visitors. It also sparked a lively discussion with the participation of the University authorities, the city authorities, and representatives of conservation offices. We hope that conceptual projects implemented by Polish students will play a role as proposals for the development of university spaces. Already on the first day, the exhibition was visited by several hundred people – the participants of the event report.

The project leader and curator of the exhibition is Prof. Dr Hab.Eng. Arch. Magdalena Żmudzińska-Nowak - Head of the RAR-3 Department in cooperation with Prof. Arch. Assunta Pelliccio, University of Cassino, and Southern Lazio.
