From February 20th, representatives of the consortium creating the European City of Science Katowice 2024 will be visiting the European Parliament in Brussels for several days.

Silesian University of Technology will be represented by the Vice-Rector for Science and Development prof. dr hab. Eng. Marek Pawelczyk.

During the Polish Science Days in Brussels, an exhibition will be presented and debates with the participation of EMNK 2024 scientists will take place.

On Tuesday, February 20th, two debates will take place in the European Parliament. The first one, devoted to the topic of science and education as the main instrument of regional transformation, based on the example of Silesia, will be led by prof. dr hab. Tomasz Pietrzykowski, Vice-Rector of the University of Silesia in Katowice for International and Domestic Cooperation.

The program also includes a debate on democracy and a lecture on the transformation of the Silesian voivodship.

During the visit to the European Parliament, the exhibition of the Academic Consortium - Katowice City of Science “Where the Mountains Are Upside Down and Inside Out” will be presented, which will take the form of a visual micro-essay.

The participants of the visit will also be able to watch film etudes by students of the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School of the University of Silesia.

On behalf of the Silesian University of Technology, Marek Pawełczyk, Vice-Rector for Science and Development will take part in the discussion.

A visit to the European Parliament is an excellent opportunity to present the achievements of Silesian universities. Interestingly, on the occasion of the Polish Science Day, a unique publication was prepared as part of EMNK 2024. “50 outstanding achievements of Silesian science" is a review of scientific research and initiatives in the field of art carried out by employees of the Academic Consortium - Katowice City of Science over the last ten years.

The publication is co-created by 7 public universities in the Silesian Voivodeship based in Katowice. The presented review shows a small section of important topics undertaken at Silesian universities and their importance in the transformation of the region in terms of climate and environment, health and quality of life, industries of the future, social innovations, industrial and cultural heritage, and creation and criticism.
