Equality Station Stop: Women in science

For the 7th time this year, we will meet to talk about one of the guiding principles of horizontal European funds and the entire Union - the principle of equality between women and men. This time we will discuss the topic of women in science - what barriers do they encounter on their scientific path? Is something limiting their professional development? Have there been any changes in this matter over the years? Or maybe it's just a myth and gender doesn't matter in this industry? Or does it depend on the type of university and field? Or something else?

We will answer these and other questions on October 24 during a special meeting to which the following guests were invited:

  • Dr hab. Eng. Monika Kwoka, prof. SUT – Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science / Department of Cybernetics, Nanotechnology and Data Processing
  • Dr hab. Eng. arch. Katarzyna Ujma-Wąsowicz, prof. SUT – Faculty of Architecture / Department of Theory, Design and History of Architecture
  • Dr hab. Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska, prof. SUT – Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering / Department of Environmental Biotechnology
  • Dr Eng. Magdalena Letun-Łątka, director of the Centre for Incubation and Technology Transfer of the Silesian University of Technology.
  • Doctor of health sciences Katarzyna Brukało - Medical University of Silesia in Katowice
  • Dr Monika Glosowitz – Faculty of Humanities, University of Silesia
  • Katarzyna Markiewicz-Śliwa MSc. – Project Management Center
  • Barbara Balon M.A.– Silesian University of Technology, National Representation of Doctoral Students

After the conversation, Professor Monika Kwoka will conduct a workshop on how to present yourself, how to show your idea, project - how to talk about your achievements and present them with pride. The socialization process of girls and young women does not always foster faith in their own abilities and the belief that they have something to be proud of, that they should and can do it.

The meeting will be held in the auditorium of the Centre for Incubation and Technology Transfer of the Silesian University of Technology, which is a co-organizer of the meeting. However, we cordially invite everyone interested, regardless of the type of university, field of study or the fact of being connected with the academic world or not. We want to conduct an open discussion and a friendly exchange of experiences.

We cordially invite you!

October 24, Tuesday, time: 15-18, Gliwice, Banacha 7, hall of the Centre for Incubation and Technology Transfer of the Silesian University of Technology (CIIT). Free admission after prior, confirmed registration:

Principles of equality between women and men

This is one of the guiding horizontal principles of the European Union, and its application is obligatory in all European funds. Pursuant to Art. 9 section 2 of Regulation (EU) 2021/1060, Member States and the Commission shall ensure that equality between men and women and gender mainstreaming and perspectives are taken into account and promoted throughout the preparation, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of programs.

The Detailed Description of Priorities includes provisions enabling beneficiaries to implement activities activating women, and as the Managing Authority of European funds in the region (Marshal's Office of the Silesian Voivodeship), we would like to promote this principle by organizing thematic meetings on gender equality. The first event devoted to this topic was a conference on Women's Day entitled “Leaders of change" - you can read the report from the event here https://slaskie.pl/content/liderki-mistrzy-o-sobie-i-sytuacji-kobiet-w-dniu-ich-swieta?page=2

Station: Equality

It is a series of thematic meetings (stops) devoted to barriers to gender equality, preventing any discrimination and counteracting stereotypes. So far, we have discussed the following topics: changes in the context of social gender conditions, returning to work after a long absence, discrimination based on disability and age, and non-stereotypical professional and private choices.

This time we will look at the situation at universities from the perspective of women, whether professional advancement is equally available to every scientist, we will talk about supporting women and girls' access to science, in particular to exact and technical sciences, although not Just. But above all, we focus on conversation in a relaxed and intimate atmosphere, exchange of contacts, discussions, networking and networking.

Meet inspiring people, gain momentum for action and knowledge about European funds!
