Energy in the hands of women – the third edition of Women’s Energy in Transition – Polish Edition has started

The third edition of the Women’s Energy in Transition – Polish Edition program has started. The program is addressed to female students and graduates of energy-related fields who, in their diploma theses, deal with issues related to energy transformation.

Dalkia Polska – a company operating in the energy services sector – together with the technological universities of Silesia, Warsaw, Poznań, Kraków, Wrocław and the AGH University of Science and Technology, will once again award the best diploma theses devoted to energy transformation defended by female students and graduates of Polish universities. The call for applications will last until May 15, 2024

The Women’s Energy in Transition – Polish Edition program is addressed to female students and graduates of energy-related fields who, in their diploma theses, deal with issues related to energy transformation. The aim of the initiative is to enable them to gain their first professional experience and start a career in the energy industry. This year’s third edition continues its mission to promote female talent in this sector.

Our goal is to find the best candidates for the energy industry. I hope and strongly believe that the example of the winners will inspire other women and encourage them to work in the energy sector. We see very big prospects for the development of the sector, the need for young blood and qualified personnel who will take an active part in the energy transition – says Jacek Chodkowski, CEO of Dalkia Group in Poland.

The current situation of women in the energy sector is difficult. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the World Economic Forum, women make up only 22% of the industry’s workforce. Women constitute only 14% of managers. Technical and engineering positions are in 72% occupied by men, which means that full equality of opportunity between the sexes will take 123 years. Meanwhile, the energy sector will become one of the most dynamically developing industries in the coming years – according to the IEA report, employment in the clean energy sector will grow consistently, with a forecast of 14 million new jobs in the renewable energy sector by 2030 and an additional 16 million clean energy jobs. Initiatives such as Women’s Energy in Transition – Polish Edition allow us to build the much needed, diverse workforce of the future.

Applications for this year’s edition can be submitted until November 30, 2024.

The program is open to female students and graduates of engineering or master’s studies in the fields of energy, whose theses were defended in the period from January 1, 2023, to October 30, 2024. Applications will be assessed according to four criteria: compliance with the subject, innovativeness, the possibility of implementation and motivation.

The winners of the program will receive cash prizes and an opportunity to complete an internship in one of the Dalkia Group companies in Poland in Warsaw or Katowice.
