Eco-toys exhibition and eco-film screening as part of the Eco Week at the Silesian University of Technology
The Eko week with the Silesian University of Technology is coming to an end. Since Monday, the participants of the event have been taking part in workshops, lectures, meetings and even an eco-walk. The event took place as part of the European City of Science Katowice 2024 celebrations.
"The Eko Week was a good opportunity to learn more about ecology and understand that caring for nature is not only a duty, but also an inspiring journey full of innovations and interesting solutions" - said the curator of the event, Dr Eng. Ewa Brągoszewska, prof. of Silesian University of Technology
On the last day of the event, at the Centre for New Technologies of the Silesian University of Technology, one could see an exhibition of eco-toys created during the workshops “We create Eco-toys.” They were attended by children aged 6 to 12 years. Their task was to create toys from waste such as plastic bottles, cans, or cardboard boxes.
- The workshops allowed children to develop creativity, increase awareness in the field of ecology, environmental protection, or knowledge on how we should segregate garbage. The children learned that waste and unnecessary items that we have at home can be used to create various interesting things, such as eco-toys," said Natalia Patoń from Student Science Club ”The Air Quality Team.”
The little creators built a robot, a rocket, a dinosaur and even a cardboard guitar. Eko Week will end with EkoSEANS at the KOSMOS cinema in Katowice. Participants will see a film about Simon Kossak – a legendary researcher who lived surrounded by animals in the Białowieża Forest.
