Dr Eng. Paulina Powroźnik a laureate of the SONATINA competition for young scientists
Over 22 million PLN was awarded in the NCN SONATINA 6 competition for research projects for young scientists. Among the winners is Dr Eng. Paulina Powroźnik from the Institute of Physics - Scientific and Didactic Centre of the Silesian University of Technology. The competition is organized by the National Science Centre. In total, 32 young researchers from all over Poland will receive support.
The SONATINA competition is aimed at young scientists. In this edition, 157 applications were submitted, and the NCN experts qualified 32 of them, for funding worth over 22 million PLN. Funds from the competition may be used for the employment of winners in Polish research units, the implementation of basic and applied research and foreign internships lasting from 3 to 6 months. Among the awarded researchers was Dr Eng. Paulina Powroźnik from the Silesian University of Technology. She was recognized for the research "Design and characterization of hybrid aluminium oxide / phthalocyanine structures".
- “Hybrid structures arouse great interest of scientists looking for solutions for use in electronic devices. The most common combination is a crystalline inorganic layer combined with organic molecular layers. Such structures combine the advantages of both types of materials. (...) The latest trends in materials science are focused on maintaining high quality devices, but at the same time reducing production costs. One of the most important challenges for scientists is the use of recyclable materials and finding possible ways to recover them. From this point of view, the importance of testing aluminium and aluminium oxide is increasing. These materials can be used as cheaper alternatives to other metals and metal oxides as electrodes, layers in field effect transistors or substrates in gas sensors”, explained Dr Paulina Powroźnik.
Financing in the project of Dr Eng. Powrożnik amounts to over 670 thousand PLN.
- “Grants awarded under the SONATINA competition cover, among others, costs of internships in prestigious foreign centres. I decided on a 3-month internship at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim” - added the laureate.
The winners of the competition were selected by an international team of experts.
- “The award is a great honour for me. Recognition of the achievements to date and the potential of planned research mobilizes to develop their own research topics” - summed up Dr Eng. Paulina Powroźnik.
