Dr Eng. Marcelina Jureczko from the Biotechnology Centre of the Silesian University of Technology won the 10th edition of FameLab Poland - a competition popularizing science. In the autumn she will represent Poland during the international finals in the UK!
The FameLab Science Communication Competition is an initiative addressed to doctoral students and young researchers who are to talk about a selected scientific issue in 3 minutes.
- “In my presentation I talked about the fact that anti-cancer drugs are not only heroes who save lives in an oncological disease, but also villains, which due to their toxicity can be harmful to the natural environment “- says Dr Eng. Marcelina Jureczko. – “I also touched on the topic of fungi capable of decomposition of compounds with complex chemical structure. I hope that thanks to my research and fungi, anti-cancer drugs will no longer be a threat to the environment but will remain only a salvation in the disease.”
Out of dozens of entries from all over the country, twelve people got to the finals, and fought for the main prize. At the semi-finals stage, the Silesian University of Technology was also represented by MSc Eng. Marta Czernecki and MSc. Eng. Nisarg Mehta. In the jury, there was, among others, Dr Hab. Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska, prof. SUT.
