Dr Eng. Ewa Zielińska has passed away

It is with deep regret that we announce that Dr Eng. Ewa Zielińska, a retired scientific employee of the Silesian University of Technology at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Technology (later the Department of Chemical Organic Technology and Petrochemistry), Faculty of Chemistry. 

Dr Eng. Ewa Zielińska, originating from Easter Borderlands which she proudly emphasized, and the daughter of a well-known architect Prof. Zygmunt Majerski, the first dean of the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology, was associated with the University throughout her professional life. From 01.10.1965 to 30.09.2001 she worked at the Faculty of Chemistry, where in 1972 she obtained a PhD degree. There, she met her future husband, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Wojciech Zieliński, Rector of the Silesian University of Technology in the years 2002-2008, who died at the end of 2024.  

Dr Eng. Ewa Zielińska was a specialist in organic technology, in particular in the field of research on the synthesis and properties of carbazole-phenol-formaldehyde resins and surfactants. Her scientific achievements included original scientific articles, papers and communications delivered at national and foreign conferences. She was also a great academic teacher, mentor, co-author of university scripts and, above all, a warm friend, a person of great heart.  

She has been awarded several times for her work, including the Golden Cross of Merit (1994) and the award of Merit for the Silesian University of Technology (1996).  

Dr Eng. Ewa Zielińska, apart from her scientific and didactic activities, also took care of the welfare of the employees of the Silesian University of Technology. She was a member and one of the founders of the Trade Union NSZZ “Solidarność” at the Silesian University of Technology and the Faculty of Chemistry in 1980, in the structures of which she held a number of functions, including a member and later also a chairman of the Audit Committee and a member of the Commission Board. 

We express our deepest sympathy to the family and relatives of the deceased,   

The Holy Mass will take place on the 9th of January 2026 at 10.00 in the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross in Gliwice, followed by the funeral ceremonies at the Central Cemetery.
