Demonstration of the strength of student research clubs of the Silesian University of Technology

A record number of over 130 participants took part in the 3rd Conference of Student Research Clubs, which took place at the Student Creativity Centre of the Silesian University of Technology. It was an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences, present the latest projects and achievements and talk about joint plans.

The Conference of student research clubs is an event that has already been permanently inscribed in the calendar of the Silesian University of Technology. It is organized by the Student Self-Government of our University, during which students can present the results of their research, PBL projects and listen to inspiring lectures.

The official opening was attended by the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok, Director of the Student Activity Centre, Dr Eng. Agata Guzik-Kopyto, Rector’s Plenipotentiary for the Student Scientific Movement Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Nikodem Kuźnik and the President of the Student Self-Government Błażej Brudny.

- Our research clubs work very hard. What’s more, we have been observing recently that they are working together and creating important projects. Working in interdisciplinary teams, they can do more. Their presence at our University is extremely important from the point of view of educating students because it allows them to develop those issues that are of particular interest to them – explains Vice-Rector Anna Chrobok. I am glad that so many participants appeared in the Student Creativity Centre, which perfectly integrates students in their everyday life. They come here to learn, work, talk, exchange observations or just relax, but as in the case of this event, talk about technical issues.

- This is the first edition of this conference organized by the current term of the Student Self-Government. We decided to move it to this place, so I am all the more pleased with the attendance – explained Błażej Brudny.

Students had the opportunity to listen to the inaugural lecture “How to transform a product into a real project,” presented by the Director of the Science and Technology Park “Technopark Gliwice” Jacek Kotra. After that, representatives of student research clubs took the floor, who had the opportunity to present their projects in thematic sessions.

- We are pleased with the involvement of student research clubs. The Rector also notes and emphasizes that they are unique and very qualitative. The evidence is participation in competitions, tournaments and quality projects and awards. Their projects are ambitious and courageous, to the extent of the creativity of our students, who can adapt to the changing geopolitical situation and find themselves in very important areas - explained Prof. Nikodem Kuźnik.

The event was attended by over 130 people and dozens of posters were presented.

- This is a very positive event. You can exchange experiences with other students, talk about ideas, problems, how they solve them in their circles. Such conversations are very valuable – says Szymon Świętek from SKN Silesian Greenpower.

The thematic sessions included presentations related to artificial intelligence and data processing, environmental protection and energy, smart cities, and mobility of the future. It was a real demonstration of the potential of student research clubs of the Silesian University of Technology.

- It is very important for us that the Student Activity Centre really lives what it was called for, and especially during this particular event. The possibility of hosting so many student research clubs in the Student Creativity Centre is a real proof that students want to be here, act and co-create this place. It is here that young people can present the effects of their work, confront them with the opinions of others and gain valuable experience – explains Dr Eng. Agata Guzik-Kopyto. - The Student Activity Centre has a wide range of facilities that really support the activity of student research clubs - from modern meeting rooms and spaces for teamwork, through workshops, to the technological hall. These are places where students can not only meet, but above all create, test their ideas, and develop projects in practice. I am very impressed with the professionalism with which the Student Self-Government prepared this conference. There are great commitment and maturity in action. The level of the presented works deserves special recognition, their high scientific potential shows that we are dealing with an ambitious and very well-prepared environment of young researchers.
