Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry distinguished in Azerbaijan
At the invitation of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Wojciech Simka, the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Silesian University of Technology took part in the international conference "Yusif Mammadaliyev: Science. Heritage. Innovation" organized on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the birth of Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev. The conference was held on 4th -5th December 2025 in Baku.
Yusif Mammadaliev was a world-famous Azerbaijani chemist who developed the technology for the production of aviation fuel during World War II. Participants of the conference had the opportunity to get acquainted with the heritage of Yusif Mammadaliyev, as well as visit places dedicated to his memory.
During the conference Prof. Wojciech Simka was honoured with the Yusif Mammadaliyev medal of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences. The medal was awarded by Emin Amrullayev - the Minister of Science and Education of Azerbaijan and the President of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences, Academician Isa Habibbayli. The medal is awarded to scholars, scientists, educators, and artists who influence the development of science, culture, and education.
During the conference, contacts were also established, which in the future will result in cooperation of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Silesian University of Technology with the Yusif Mammadaliyev Foundation as well as Azerbaijani universities.
