Crowds of students during “Doughnuts with the Rector”
In less than an hour the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk and Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok distributed about a thousand doughnuts at the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering, and Industrial Automation in Gliwice. The second edition of “Doughnuts with the Rector” met with great interest of students of our University.
A lot of students of the Silesian University of Technology from various Faculties responded positively to the invitation of the Rector’s Authorities to a doughnut and autumn tea. Once again, it turned out that the initiative of “Doughnuts with the Rector” was a hit.
- It’s a great pleasure for me to spend this time with students. I am glad that so many of them have showed up. It was not only an opportunity to share a doughnut, but also a time for numerous conversations. This was the whole point of this initiative – says Rector Marek Pawełczyk, who emphasized that he had not had the opportunity to pose for so many photos and selfies for a long time.
- Thanks to such meetings, I recognize more and more students. This is very important because I can support them, talk to them, and they have a lot of questions. We have really amazing and talented students who not only want to attend classes, but today also asked about the possibility of joining projects and how they can develop – emphasized Vice-Rector Anna Chrobok. - It was a great afternoon – full of emotions, positive energy. I am very impressed with what happened here, and I am glad that I could participate.
Among the participants there were also those who took part in last year’s first edition.
- Last year we were here too, and we think that this is a great idea. One can feel the student atmosphere, talk to the Rector, take a photo with him, and also just have a break from classes and relax - say Natalia and Dominika first year students of the master’s studies at the Faculty of Chemistry.
The event was also attended by the President of the Student Self-Government Błażej Brudny.
- It is very important for students to establish contact with the Rector's authorities, but also our self-government. The number of participants confirms that young people need such initiatives here - adds Błażej Brudny.
The event was accompanied by a great performance by musicians from the Symphony Orchestra of the Silesian University of Technology.
- We played some pop-music and classical music. I have not had the opportunity to give concerts at this type of event yet, but it is a great idea and I spent a nice time here - says Jan, a first year student at the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology.
Already now we also invite students of other campuses, where “Doughnuts with the Rector” will also take place:
- On the 5th of November, at 10:00 a.m. at the main entrance in the Silesian University of Technology building in Katowice at 8, Z. Krasińskiego Street
- On the 7th of November, at 9:00 a.m. – at the main entrance in the building of the branch of the Silesian University of Technology in Rybnik at 54, Tadeusza Kościuszki Street.
- On the 12th of November, at 10:00 in the main hall of building B, Silesian University of Technology, Department of Organization and Management 26 - 28, Roosevelta Street.
