Crowds at the Open Days of Silesian University of Technology

Hundreds of those interested in the offer of education at the Silesian University of Technology attended the Open Days of our University on the 27th of March 2025.

As usual, the Open Days at the Gliwice campus of the Silesian University of Technology attracted great interest due to the opportunity to visit laboratories, get acquainted with the offer of education and new fields of study. At the auditorium of the Silesian University of Technology, this year's secondary school graduates and secondary school pupils who came from the Silesian, Lesser Poland, and Opole voivodeships were greeted by the Rector's authorities.

His Magnificence Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk welcomed the attendees and pointed out that we are extending to the candidates an increasingly modern offer of education, adapting to the needs of the future labour market.

- “Our offer stands out from other universities in the country because it focuses on education directly related to professional practice. Working closely with the socio-economic environment and business, we know that practical education is valuable. We implement it on the basis of PBL (Project Based Learning) projects with the participation of students, in groups of several people” – said the Rector. – “We also offer our students the opportunity to develop their practical skills and interests in the Student Science Clubs, of which we have about a hundred.” – he added.

Candidates could get acquainted with the offer of science clubs at the stands and during presentations in the auditorium. Candidates for studies learned that in their free time at the Silesian University of Technology, they can design cars and other modern electric and autonomous vehicles and work on inventions based on artificial intelligence and responding to the needs of modern industries, e.g. automation, robotization and space industry.

During the presentation of the education offer of the Silesian University of Technology for 2025/2026, information on new fields of study could not be missing. In total, there are dozens of them at all faculties of the Silesian University of Technology. However, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok paid special attention to three novelties.

- “We listen to the needs of the labour market, analyse reports that tell us what skills will be very desirable in the future and try to adapt our offer to this.” - said the Vice-Rector. In response to the list of professions of the future from October 2025, three new fields of study will be created at the Silesian University of Technology. They all fit into the subject of sustainable development, related to the care for the environment and climate.

- “The first is “Green Technology.” Graduates with such education will be able to design solutions for the needs of the environment, corresponding to European and global requirements” – explained the Vice-Rector. – “In turn, the field “Sustainable consumption and production” will educate experts in the field of sustainable development. It will allow to gain general knowledge about materials, raw materials, and energy management, as well as requirements and regulations related to it.” – she added.

The third of the new fields of study is particularly connected with the economic and energy transformation of the region – the “Revitalization of post-industrial areas.” Since there are many areas in Silesia that need development and modernization, experts in this field will be sought, especially in our region.

The list of fields of study does not end there. What is important, a student who decides to study in a chosen field can change his or her mind without consequences during the course of study. Silesian University of Technology guarantees flexible education. It allows to acquire the basics and to tailor specialization to the individual interests of each student. How is this made possible? A student can choose the so-called electives from a database of 300 proposals, which in turn guarantee the acquisition of a unique specialty.

“But the student does not live by science itself” – argued during the Open Days Błażej Brudny from the Student Self-Government of the Silesian University of Technology.

- “There are many places where students can develop their passions with us. Student Creativity Centre and Student Clubs. In addition, we spend time together at events that take place in the Student Culture Centre "Mrowisko". And for sports enthusiasts – we have a lot of sections operating at the Sports Centre of the Silesian University of Technology.” – said Błażej.
