Crowds at the Open Day of the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering
The Open Day of the Faculty of Transport and Aeronautical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology, combined with the Day of the Employer, attracted hundreds of students and secondary school pupils to the Faculty building in Katowice on April the 9th.
Secondary school pupils had an excellent opportunity to learn about the didactic offer, technical facilities, and specialist equipment of the Faculty.
- “A full lecture hall and corridors is a reason for us to be satisfied. We are pleased, first of all, with the presence of secondary school pupils, because it is them that event is mainly addressed to today. We do not want to be closed in the walls of the university, but open to young people. I noticed that they liked what we have to offer, because there were many participants who were interested in research facilities that we have.” - says the Dean of the Faculty Dr Hab. Eng. Grzegorz Sierpiński, prof. SUT.
- “More than three hundred people attended the event. It is a very good and important signal for us that young people are interested in the subject that we undertake at the Faculty.” - explains the Vice-Dean for Infrastructure and Organization Dr Eng. Adam Mańka.
Throughout the day, participants could take part in workshops, student science clubs presentations, lectures, discussion panels, as well as take a closer look at various vehicles.
"This is a special day, because today you can enter and discover our facilities with specialized equipment, which are often not available on a daily basis. We are pleased with the response from secondary school pupils, as well as their directors and teachers, who- very often - are our former students. This is a great opportunity to reach and talk to our potential candidates. We can explain to them in a simple and precise way what studies at our Faculty are like, how we educate. On a daily basis, some concepts may be incomprehensible to them, and today they have a chance to talk to scientists about every topic that concerns them “. - says the Vice-Dean for Student Affairs and Education, Dr Hab. Eng. Damian Hadryś, Prof. SUT.
26 invited companies participated in “The Day with the Employer”. Among the representatives there were many graduates of our University. It was an excellent opportunity for students and not only to get acquainted with job offers, internships and work placements in the transport industry.
“We observe every year that during direct contact of students with representatives of companies, the first conversations about future work take place. We receive signals from entrepreneurs that when they are looking for people for specific positions, they often choose our Faculty. Their experience with our graduates is very positive.” – says Dean Grzegorz Sierpiński.
- “As a graduate of the Silesian University of Technology I have been cooperating with the University for many years This is an important day for us. Today we decided to present ourselves to our future employees. There is a very high demand in the railway industry for various positions. The generation gap is not filled – older people leave, and the younger ones are unfortunately missing, and it takes a few years to train a specialist in the railway industry, which is why we are also launching various courses and trainings.” - explains the Director of POLREGIO S. A. Józef Tetla.
