Silesian University of Technology has established cooperation with Mechanical Works „BUMAR-ŁABĘDY” S.A. in Gliwice in the field of research and development, education, and development of staff. The agreement was signed on 1 April 2025 by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk and the President of the Management Board of Bumar-Łabędy, Zbigniew Krzyszkowski.
The signed agreement will cover a wide range of cooperation, including the implementation of joint research and development projects, implementation of innovative solutions and active participation in the student education process. Under the agreement, it will also be possible to carry out master’s theses, doctoral theses and engineering projects, as well as the organization of specialized trainings, workshops and seminars. In addition, students and PhD students will have the opportunity to acquire practical skills through internships, work placements and participation in interdisciplinary research teams, which will contribute to their better preparation for the challenges of the modern labour market.
-"Bumar-Łabędy” is one of the key companies in the country dealing with military equipment. Silesian University of Technology as a research university and technical university is its natural partner. Our cooperation has been going on for years, but now it should take on a much larger dimension. We have competences, research groups and departments dealing with topics that are of interest to Bumar-Łabędy,” - explains Rector Marek Pawełczyk.

Students of the Silesian University of Technology will have the opportunity to implement joint projects in the Project based Learning formula with Bumar, as well as participate in study visits that will allow to gain valuable experience and learn about modern military technologies in practice.
Rector Marek Pawełczyk emphasizes that combining science with industry is an important aspect for the Silesian University of Technology.
- “The university operates in a unique place, which is the Silesian Voivodeship, and our activity is based largely on cooperation with industry. Together with representatives of Bumar-Łabędy we talk about how to provide an appropriate education path for our students who could already take up work in the company during their studies and, after their completion, constitute a staff that will serve the development of not only this company, but also the country, contributing to the increase of our security.” – adds the Rector.
- “Silesian University of Technology is a natural source of obtaining specialized and engineering personnel. We are currently designing two groups of products that we would like to launch in two or three years – armoured wheeled vehicles and armoured vehicles, i.e. tanks and accompanying vehicles based on the Korean K2 technology. That is why this agreement is an opportunity for us and a prospect of acquiring appropriate personnel for investment projects launching new products” – says President Zbigniew Krzyszkowski.
