Conference "I am a parent - I choose empathy" under the patronage of the Silesian University of Technology
The 3rd National Conference "I am a parent - I choose empathy" was held at CKS Mrowisko. The event was attended by teachers, psychologists and parents. The conference was held under the patronage of the Silesian University of Technology.
The participants discussed various topics: cyberbullying, how to talk to a teenager and why it is increasingly difficult to be a parent in the twenty-first century.
– “We live in a world of many possibilities, increasing consumerism and lack of time. However, we can stop this reel a bit and not stop seeing and hearing our children” – said Elżbieta Więcław, vice-president of the Filomata Educational Society, which organized the conference.
– “The conference is primarily addressed to parents, because they have a huge impact on what the adult life of their children will look like – emphasizes Elżbieta Więcław. We do things, consciously or unconsciously, and our intention is to incorporate as much awareness as possible into these parental behaviors, words or choices. (...) With awareness, we win the good future of our children, giving the chance that as adults they will not end up in therapy offices, not being able to cope with their own emotions” – she added.
The guest of the conference was an outstanding psychiatrist and therapist Prof. Bogdan de Barbaro, who emphasized that today children are very often lonely and cyberworld gives them the apparent bond. “When parents are busy with themselves or with their careers, a teenager won't say to them, 'I'm lonely, hug me,' but will run away into the world of a smartphone. This is dangerous because then this loneliness is not so obvious. (...) I think that this horizon of closeness and cooperation in our today's world is quite neglected” – emphasized the professor.

The conference was held for the third time, its organizer is the Filomata Educational Society. The patronage over the event was taken by the Silesian University of Technology.
– “It is important that the University, taking care primarily of new technologies, also perfectly understands that there are people behind each of them. And when people are organized and in contact with each other, these technologies will also be better “– emphasized Elżbieta Więcław, vice-president of the Filomata Educational Society.
The conference was attended by several hundred people from Gliwice, Warsaw, Wrocław and Sopot.
