Concert with a touch of spring

Colourful costumes, wonderful dances and music and lots of positive energy - all this happened thanks to the spring concert of the Academic Dance Ensemble of the Silesian University of Technology "Dąbrowiacy", which took place at the Mrowisko Student Culture Centre.

During the concert, the audience learned about Easter, Lent and spring traditions and customs, including: walking with goik and drowning Marzanna. Above all, they heard melodies and saw dances from various regions of Poland, presented by members of the Academic Dance Ensemble of the Silesian University of Technology "Dąbrowiacy", which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The audience had a great time and gave the artists a long round of applause at the end.

- It is very valuable to us that people reacted so positively - says Barbara Lisiecka, head of the Academic Dance Ensemble of the Silesian University of Technology "Dąbrowiacy".
- Especially since many dancers made their debut with this concert. These are young people who came to us after the pandemic and have no stage experience yet, so the audience's reaction is extremely pleasing.

Some of the first dancers who joined this ensemble in the 1970s also appeared on stage.

- Multi generation aspect is the strength of "Dąbrowiacy", during the concert the children of some of the band members also performed - explains Barbara Lisiecka. - A very close-knit community is created here; friendships are formed that can survive even changes in place of residence. Being a member of "Dąbrowiacy" gave these people a lot of beautiful memories. I want to thank the entire artistic staff and band. They have done an incredible job in recent months to prepare for this event.

The dancers' performances were followed by, among others, prof. dr Eng. Arkadiusz Mężyk, Rector of the Silesian University of Technology.

- This concert is a great tradition of the Silesian University of Technology - says prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk. - In May, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of this dance ensemble at a gala. It is a large piece of history, not only of the Silesian University of Technology, but also of Polish culture. In this concert alone, three generations of "Dąbrowiacy" performed on stage. Times are changing, and there is no shortage of people in the ensemble willing to dance, sing and have fun. Looking at the image of the academic community in the country, there are fewer and fewer student culture centres. Especially in large academic centres, these are often commercialized units. In "Dąbrowiacy" we are dealing with the active participation of members of the academic community, and what we care most about is integration and creating a sense of community.
