Civil engineering industry has offers for students
The Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology once again organized the Student Job Fair, during which young people met with representatives of companies from the civil engineering industry and not only that. It was a great opportunity to find a work placement, a job, or an offer of professional internships.
On April the 15th, 2026, the Student Job Fair was held in the building of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. The event has been successfully organized by the Dean’s authorities for years and is appreciated by students.
- This year we have hosted 26 employees. This is an excellent opportunity for our students, (currently over 1100), to find an internship or a job, but also offers to take part in professional internships, which are mandatory during the seventh semester of the first-degree studies. Such internships must take place within the framework of an employment contract, and fairs help our students to find potential employers who are able to offer them – said Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Barbara Klemczak.
Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Bożena Skołud, Vice-Rector for General Affairs of the Silesian University of Technology, present at the event, had no doubt that contact with the future employer is more important in the education of students than just studying the theory.
- I am a member of accreditation committees at various universities, and I must admit that in my opinion the most important thing is cooperation with companies that are able to profile graduates for the needs of the market and professional challenges. It is precisely such meetings with practitioners as they are today that are an important element of education for them, because they prepare a young person for the job market – she admitted.
Vice Rector for Collaboration with Civic and Economic Environment Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marcin Staniek, Prof. SUT added that not only students will benefit from the fair.
- Employers can also benefit. They have the opportunity to interest people who study at the best civil engineering field in Poland. The way of educating civil engineers at the Silesian University of Technology has been assessed best in Poland, it testifies to the level of knowledge of graduates that employers would like to see them at their companies, so I hope that they will have fruitful meetings with our youth at the fair – he admitted.
Representatives of companies and exhibitors confirmed this thesis. Edyta Dziedzic-Mania, project team manager from Małro Projekt shared the history of the company she works for.
- Our team consists of graduates of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. What’s more, our entire management team is composed of the graduates of this faculty, so I confirm the high level of education here at this university. It is a reason for us to be proud to be here today, - she said.
Employers came with ready offers. The meetings were indeed very fruitful. Representatives of companies indicated where to submit documents and how to start recruitment process and what requirements should be met in order to reach the ranks of individual employers. The offers concerned positions related to, for example, road and bridge design, work in design, construction, and cost-estimate offices.
- We value such an event, not only because of the offers, but also because of the meetings with employers themselves, which give us a lot. We find out what the trends on the labour market are
and in which field it is worth specializing. This affects our future choices – said Malwina Wielka from the Student Self- Government of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
During the fair, students could also ask for some advice from the representatives of the Student Career Office of the Silesian University of Technology, who helped in the preparation of application documents and the Regional Inspector of the National Labour Inspectorate in Katowice.
The unit was represented by Piotr Kalbron, who believes that students should know their employee rights and the rules of ensuring safety in companies before starting work.
- We have the opportunity to promote safe working conditions here, as well as to promote labour law, so that students in their future careers know how to find themselves in this new environment, and employers know how to employ in accordance with the provisions of labour law, health and safety at work,- he added.
The job fair has been held at the Faculty of Civil Engineering since 2017.
