Citizen Science – a partnership of scientists and enthusiasts
Involving non-researchers in research activities, as well as building civil society - these are the opportunities offered by citizen science. On the 12th of March, Dr Hab. Edyta Sierka, Prof. UŚ will talk in the Science Populariser Toolbox about how it connects scientists and science enthusiasts.
Citizen science involves conducting scientific activities involving people who are not scientists or experts in a given field. People who participate in citizen science act on a voluntary basis. Their work in a scientific project on various dimensions; it can be data collection, analysis, monitoring and much more.
During the meeting of the Science Populariser Toolbox, we will learn how projects involving citizens are carried out, as well as how new technologies improve their participation. We will also talk about the value of such activities to increase scientific knowledge and increase public awareness about science.
The meeting will be led by Dr Hab. Edyta Sierka, Prof. of University of Silesia – biologist, environmental protection specialist in the functioning of urban-industrial ecosystems, author of scientific publications, manager and contractor of research and didactic projects in Poland and abroad covering the subject of biological diversity. She has implemented numerous forms of cooperation with the university environment, including elements of civic education.
