Christmas carolling with the Academic Choir of the Silesian University of Technology
In the Education and Congress Centre, Christmas carolling with the Academic Choir of the Silesian University of Technology took place. The ceremony was attended by University employees for whom it was an opportunity to stop for a moment in the pre-Christmas bustle and listen to beautiful Christmas carols.
The participants were welcomed by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology Prof. Marek Pawełczyk.
- This evening introduces us to the atmosphere of Christmas in a very festive way. It is also an opportunity to show this beautiful tradition of pre-Christmas meetings to our guests from abroad who came here to study and work. It builds our community and a sense of connection, giving strength for the next year – said the Rector.
During the ceremony, the Rector also referred to the jubilee of the Academic Choir of the Silesian University of Technology, which, like the University, celebrates the 80th anniversary.
- The Academic Choir of the Silesian University of Technology is appreciated on many stages, both in Poland and abroad - said the Rector, also passing on the wishes and an award from the Minister of Culture of National Heritage on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the choir's activity.
During the concert, scouts from the Gliwice Land ZHP (Polish Scouting and Guiding Association) handed over the Bethlehem Light of Peace to the Rector.
- With the Scout greetings, “Watch out!” - we come to you with the Light of Peace of Bethlehem, which begins its history in Bethlehem, precisely in the Grotto of the Nativity of the Lord. Every year, one candle is fired there, which then, together with scouts from all over the world, begins its international journey, also reaching Poland. It is transferred to the Scouts and then to various institutions and offices. Today we come to the Silesian University of Technology and pass on this light, which carries the message: “Cultivate the good in yourself” – said the Gliwice scouts.
This year’s carolling with the Academic Choir of the Silesian University of Technology, under the direction of Tomasz Giedwiłło, was attended by employees, students, PhD students, and the University authorities.
