Chess Olympiad at the Silesian University of Technology

174 preschoolers competed on June 9th at the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation of the Silesian University of Technology during the Chess Olympiad for the Youngest. The honorary patronage over the event was taken by Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Arkadiusz Mężyk – the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, grandmaster Radosław Jedynak - President of the Polish Chess Federation and Prof. Dr Eng. Franciszek Plewa, Dean of the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation.

The event was organized by the Hetman Gliwice Chess Club Association.

176 children from forty-one kindergartens took part in the competition. The rank of the competition increases from year to year. Children from kindergartens from all over Poland came to Gliwice, and one of the participants even came from Ireland.

For many children, the event was the first tournament in their lives where they could test their skills. The Olympics were divided into six age groups: up to 5, 6 and 7 years olds (separately for girls and boys). All children received a diploma, medal and gift.
