Carnival Ball of the Silesian University of Technology

Another extraordinary Carnival Ball of the Silesian University of Technology is behind us. The event was an opportunity to celebrate successes together and meet with the academic community and friends of the Silesian University of Technology.

The Carnival Ball of the Silesian University of Technology, as usual, enjoyed great interest of the academic community. In the hall of the Small Arena PreZero in Gliwice, on Saturday, January 17th, 2026, 500 people gathered, who in a good atmosphere wanted to celebrate the successes of the past year and to tune in well for the next challenges.

The Host of the evening, His Magnificence Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk emphasized that the ball is an opportunity to summarize the jubilee year of the 80th anniversary of the Silesian University of Technology.

- 80 years is a long time. Silesian University of Technology is a university that has always been modern and has posed challenges. For years we were the main supplier of staff for the growing Silesian industry and the domestic economy, and now for the modern technological market – said the Rector.

- We spent 2025 year celebrating. There were many wonderful events that accompanied this jubilee. We proved that it is possible to reach bold goals, he added. The Rector also mentioned the award of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Prof. Victor R. Ambros, the central jubilee of the 80th anniversary of the Silesian University of Technology, the meeting of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Technical Universities and the visit of second Polish astronaut Dr. Sławosz Wiśniewski-Uznański.

- 2025 was also a special year for me and our Rector's College, because it is the first full year of our term of office and the first year of work of the new dean authorities. Thank you very much for the excellent atmosphere of cooperation, for the dedication to our University. I wish you to get as much satisfaction as possible from your work and that you feel part of something great that we are creating together.

The atmosphere of the celebration was shared not only by employees, students, and PhD students of the Silesian University of Technology. Among the guests at the Ball there were, among others, deputy ministers of science and higher education, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Maria Mrówczyńska and Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Gzik.

- This ball is synonymous with optimism every year, but let’s not forget that from Monday we are going to go back to work again, because we have a year of new challenges ahead of us. We are waiting for an assessment of the quality of Polish science. Evaluation is also another competition Initiative of Excellence - Research University. I wish all of you that the Silesian University of Technology once again proves that it is among the best universities in Poland – said Prof. Gzik.

Wishes for the new year were also given to the academic community by representatives of institutions and companies that cooperate with our University on a daily basis.

- We always celebrate our common good relations, so since we feel like a family in this city, we are always happy to spend this special moment, which is the Ball, with the Silesian University of Technology – added Katarzyna Kuczyńska-Budka, Mayor of Gliwice.

Artur Tomasik, President of the University Council and President of the Upper Silesian Aviation Society, admitted that the ball is an opportunity to celebrate further academic successes. – Silesian University of Technology is doing very well, reaching higher and higher places in rankings. I hope that this next year will be as successful for all students and employees as the previous one.

The guests traditionally started the Ball together by dancing the polonaise. The dance was led by the dancers of the Academic Dance Ensemble “Dąbrowiacy.” After the gala dinner, the guests were greeted by a surprise in the form of a performance of the titled dance couple from the Silesian University of Technology – Barbara and Wojciech Skarka. There was no shortage of sweet treats, cakes, and competitions. The fun in a good atmosphere lasted until the morning.
