Beauty in architecture

The opening of the exhibition by Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Arch. Adam Lisik took place at the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology in Katowice. The exhibition was entitled "Beauty in Architecture". Visitors can see several dozen works presented in connection with the 25th anniversary of John Paul II's visit to Gliwice.

25 years ago in Gliwice, during the pilgrimage of John Paul II, an impressive altar was built, designed by Prof. Adam Lisik. The main idea of the adopted architectural concept of the Papal Altar in Gliwice was the motif of the creation of man, presented by Michelangelo in the vault fresco in the Sistine Chapel.

- “It was a very important moment for me then. The project was selected through a competition. I have kept the sketches of the project to this day,” says Prof. Adam Lisik. – “The title of the exhibition is binding, so I wanted to present what I have the best - designs of religious buildings, small residential houses and bridges. The issue of sacred architecture is an exciting, but not easy design challenge, because it concerns the metaphorical expression of ideological content in the architectural structure.”

Prof. Adam Lisik is an outstanding creator of Silesian sacred architecture, author of several dozen sacred buildings. He is also the founder of the Silesian School of Energy-Saving Architecture. Many invited guests and students of the faculty appeared at the opening.

- “Although he is a retired professor at the Silesian University of Technology, he is still professionally active and also gives lectures at our faculty. He has great speeches and design advice” - explains Dr Hab. Eng. Arch. Klaudiusz Fross, prof. SUT, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture. – “He designed and built dozens of churches. He is an outstanding creator. He has his own style. Due to respect for his achievements, we wanted to recall the work of Professor Lisik on the occasion of the anniversary of John Paul II's stay in Gliwice. By the way, we have already inaugurated the fifth gallery of the Faculty of Architecture. We cordially invite everyone to visit.”

The exhibition can be seen free of charge until June 30, 2024, on the ground floor of the building of the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology in Katowice at 8 Krasińskiego Street.
