Awards of the Division IV Engineering Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences for scientists of the Silesian University of Technology
In 2025, the Division IV of the Polish Academy of Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences awarded a total of six scientific awards, three of which went to the scientists of the Silesian University of Technology.
Scientific awards of the Division IV Engineering Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences were received by:
- Dr Eng. Ryszard Buchalik – for a series of works in the field of energy equipment analysis; for outstanding achievements and creative research work;
- Dr Hab. Eng. Andrzej Katunin, Prof. SUT – for a series of six publications concerning research on the effect of self-heating occurring in the form of thermal energy dissipation during fatigue of composites in polymer matrix;
- Dr Hab. Eng. Piotr Wodarski, Prof SUT - for his work entitled “Method of detecting temporary postural corrections as a tool enabling differentiation of strategies of maintaining body balance by man in the context of diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases.”
The awards confirm the high level of research conducted at the Silesian University of Technology and the significant contribution of its scientists to the development of technical sciences.

The individual Divisions of the Polish Academy of Sciences traditionally reward scholars for outstanding and creative scientific achievements at the end of the year. The Division Awards of the Polish Academy of Sciences enjoy special prestige in the academic environment and are awarded annually to Polish researchers and foreigners employed in Poland.
The awards are granted for outstanding, published creative scientific work or a series of works in the field of disciplines represented by individual divisions of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Applications for granting them are submitted by members of the Polish Academy of Sciences and members of scientific and problem committees affiliated to a given division. The winners are selected by each of the five divisions of Polish Academy of Sciences.
