Award of the President of the City of Gliwice to the Academic Choir of the Silesian University of Technology
The Academic Choir of the Silesian University of Technology was awarded during the XXXII edition of the Awards of the President of the City of Gliwice. The choir received an award for its overall activity in the category “Propagation of culture.”
The event was attended by the Vice-Rector for General Affairs, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Bożena Skołud, president of the choir Bernadette Zapała and conductor Tomasz Giedwiłło.
The gala took place on the 21st of September in the ruins of the Victoria Theatre in Gliwice. The awards of the President of Gliwice were granted for achievements in the field of culture in 2024. The awards went to artists who enrich the cultural life of Gliwice with their activities.
For the Academic Choir of the Silesian University of Technology, this is yet another distinction in recent weeks. Let us remind you that the musicians recently returned from Spain, from where they brought two awards from the Canco Mediterania festival named after Pau Casalsa.
- This month perfectly fits into the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the University and our choir. The Award of the President of Gliwice is a very important distinction for us. This is a reward for generations of our choristers. It is an honour to be ambassadors of the Silesian University of Technology and Gliwice in Poland and around the world – says Tomasz Giedwiłło, who in January will celebrate the 20th anniversary of his work with the choir as a conductor. – It is also a mobilization to develop continuously. Very active months are ahead of us. We still receive a lot of orders for concerts and the whole season has to be planned months in advance. It is a big challenge, but also a huge satisfaction.
In the near future, the choir will present itself at the Intercollegiate Academic Inauguration in Katowice. Soon, it will also start recording a carol album together with the AUKSO orchestra from Tychy.
During the gala, prizes were also awarded in two other categories: “Artistic creation” for achievements in 2024 and “Artistic creation” for lifetime achievement. The other winners are: Maciej Piasny, Tomasz Paweł Sadownik, Lesław Nowara, Krzysztof Siwczyk, Joanna Cypriak vel Czupryniak, Leszek Cepak, Ewa Pańczyk-Hałubiec, Małgorzata Lichecka and the Gliwice Chamber Orchestra Foundation.
