Award of the Committee on Informatics of the Polish Academy of Sciences for Prof. Jerzy Respondek
Prof. Jerzy Respondek was awarded the Award of the Committee on Informatics of the Polish Academy of Sciences for his outstanding monograph in the field of Computer Science named after Professor Zdzisław Pawlak. His work, “Fast Matrix Multiplication with Applications,” published by Springer last year, is a cross-cutting study of rapid matrix multiplication.
The monograph by Dr Hab. Eng. Jerzy Respondek, Prof. SUT is one of the first scientific works that presents the issues of rapid multiplication of matrices in a way that is accessible to readers from outside the narrow mathematical environment. Prof. Respondek also included as many as 43 possible practical applications in it, enabling engineers, computer scientists, and scientists to use this technology.

The Professor Zdzisław Pawlak Award, established in 2016, is a prestigious award granted annually by the Committee on Informatics of the Polish Academy of Sciences to the authors of the most outstanding scientific monographs in the field of computer science. The aim of the competition is to promote publications that make a significant contribution to the development of global and national computer science. The evaluation includes, among others, innovation, originality, quality of research and the potential impact of the publication on the development of this scientific discipline.
Prof. Zdzisław Pawlak was one of the pioneers of Polish computer science, the creator of rough sets theory.
