Another training “Game-based learning in academic didactics”
“We develop modern didactic competences”: - under this motto another training course was held in the series “Game-based learning in academic didactics.”The training, carried out by the Centre for Modern Education on the 7th of June 2025 as part of the project “Silesian University of Technology supporting the staff on the way to excellence” (no. FERS.01.05-IP.08-0159/23-00), was a continuation of the cycle of activities developing digital and didactic competences of the academic staff of the Silesian University of Technology.
The project is implemented within the framework of the European Funds for Social Development 2021–2027 and financed by the European Social Fund Plus.
Its aim is to support academic teachers and doctoral students in the improvement of modern methods of education, adapted to the dynamically changing educational realities. One of the key elements of the project is the development of competences in the use of digital tools and immersive technologies in the teaching process.
The next part of the series “Game-based learning in academic teaching – building digital textbooks as Minecraft Education worlds” was devoted to advanced interaction mechanisms in the Minecraft Education environment, with particular emphasis on command blocks and redstone – tools enabling the creation of reactive teaching scenarios.
During the training, participants:
- Got to know the principles of operation and use of command blocks,
- learned how to combine commands with red.
- created automated interactions and simulations useful in didactics,
- designed their own fragments of “digital textbooks” with interactive game logic.
The workshop was led by Dr Stefan Nowicki – an instructional designer, digital competence trainer for academic teachers and a certified Minecraft Trainer and Microsoft Innovative Educator.
The training took place as part of a larger cycle, which includes four meetings and will end in June this year The next stages will provide for further deepening of knowledge in the field of game-based learning and practical use of Minecraft Education in academic teaching.
