Another group of students from China at the Silesian University of Technology
The University authorities welcomed over a hundred students from China who are starting their studies at the Silesian University of Technology as part of the European Institute of Yanshan University. Cooperation between both universities is developing very dynamically - in total, nearly 170 students from the Middle Kingdom are studying at the Silesian University of Technology.
Education for students recruited in China lasts 4 years and is carried out in the "1+3" pattern, i.e. for the first two semesters, classes are conducted at Yanshan University, and the next 3 years - at the Silesian University of Technology. Chinese students study at four faculties: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry as well as Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science. As part of the cooperation, common teaching programs were agreed. Graduates will receive a bachelor's degree from Yanshan University and an engineer's degree from the Silesian University of Technology. – This cooperation is the result of many years of conversations, we had to look for solutions together, for example how to eliminate differences in the education system. We are proud that we were so effective that a university in China established a special institute dedicated to cooperation with the Silesian University of Technology, we are pioneers in this respect in the country - said Prof. Marek Pawełczyk, Vice-Rector for Science and Development. – This is also the result of the excellent work of the faculties that prepared the curricula, accepted and educated these students – he added.
The European Institute of Yanshan University offers 5 English-language fields of study: “Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation", "Electrical Engineering and Automation", "Automation", "Electrical Science and Technology" and "Chemical Engineering and Technology". Yifei Sima has been studying at the latter for a year and is very pleased that she started her studies in Poland. – It's better than I expected, the way of education here is very different from what I know from my country. In Poland, teachers have more time for us, we can ask questions, in China we mainly attend lectures - explained the student. – In the future, I would like to apply for second-cycle studies, because I also really like the local lifestyle. – added Yifei.
– We plan to open master's studies in several fields – confirmed prof. Pawełczyk – the number of students from China will increase every year and we hope that cooperation will bring many benefits for our community, not only because we have the opportunity to experience Asian culture. Our students will be able to establish contacts that will result in future cooperation in their professional lives. Academic teachers also come with students and I think that it is also an opportunity for our scientists to establish cooperation - added the Vice-Rector.
Prof. Yuven Liu, dean of the European Institute of Yanshan University, wishing students good luck in the new academic year, emphasized that an additional value of cooperation between universities is the exchange of intercultural experiences. – The Silesian University of Technology is a very famous university in Europe, and Yanshan is renowned in China, especially when it comes to technology, which is why together we want to educate the best engineers – said the dean. – It is a very good decision to send our students to Poland, they also have a chance to encounter a completely different culture and customs. – I feel very comfortable here, the people around me are very nice, there is an open atmosphere at the university – Zihe Zhao described her first impressions of her stay in Poland – I am glad that I decided to go to Poland – added the student.
