An opportunity for young scientists. The European competition will be held in Katowice
European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) will take place next year in Katowice. The final competition is scheduled for September 2024. The competition will be part of the celebrations of the European City of Science. The Silesian University of Technology is in the consortium organizing this event.
European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) is the largest and most important undertaking of this type presenting student research work. The event with a long tradition has been organized since 1989.
The main objectives of the competition are to encourage young people to be interested in science and to support their scientific passions.
Works in the field of exact, natural, technical, social and economic sciences can be submitted to the competition.
Pupils and students aged 14 to 21 who will not have completed their first semester of studies by the finals can participate in the competition. The submitted work - theoretical or experimental - may have a maximum of three authors and must be created before all team members enter the university.
According to the organizers, EUCYS consists of two stages: national and international qualifying finals. The first stage, organized by the National Children's Fund, consists in sending an application containing a detailed description of the research problem with the proposed solution, along with a poster presentation.
Then, the national organizers select the winners to participate in the international finals. These are organized every year in the largest European cities - including those that have been awarded the title of European City of Science. In 2024, it will be Katowice, and it is here that scientists from all over Europe will compete with each other.
More details and regulations can be found on the website of the National Children's Fund.
