An opportunity for PhD students to gain international experience
PhD students of the Silesian University of Technology can take part in an interesting initiative that will enable establishing international contacts and dissemination of their research, all within the framework of the SGroup think Tank for Doctoral Education initiative.
The SGroup PhD Cup is an initiative that aims to improve doctoral students’ communication skills through a competition based on the 3-Minute Thesis Pitch model. Participants will benefit from free online training in rhetoric and research communication.
The stages of the PhD Cup include:
- the online training phase, in which PhD students will receive expert coaching in the field of research communication;
- a video-based qualification round in which participants will compete, presenting their research in a concise manner, and the top 10 will be selected;
- The live final in Szeged, Hungary, during which the top five finalists will receive funding from their own institution for a presentation before the General Assembly of the SGroup.
The winner will receive a doctoral scholarship of up to €1000 granted by SGroup to support research abroad at an institution of their choice.
Who can enter the competition?
Applicants must be formally enrolled in a doctoral program at a university that is a member of the SGroup or an associate. PhD students who are not in the initial or final stages of doctoral studies (must already have some results to be transferred and must still be officially members of doctoral schools in 2025).
Why is it worth taking part in this project?
The competition will allow you to gain skills in scientific communication and public speaking and also open the way to gain international renown through the prestigious competition. In addition, the prize is funded by a research mobility grant. Another advantage of participation in the competition is establishing contacts with other PhD students and leading academic specialists from SGroup institutions.
