An Open Day was held at ALO in Gliwice

Architecture workshops, maths field games, robot demonstrations and fun physics in space - were the special attractions addressed to primary school pupils who visited the Academic Secondary School of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice (ALO). The Open Day was held there last Saturday.

ALO in Gliwice opened its doors. On Saturday, students interested in choosing a secondary school this year had an opportunity to visit the ALO building and talk to teachers and secondary school students. - We want to show our school, which teaches through the hands-on experience- said the school's headmistress, Małgorzata Borysławska PhD.

During the Open Day, candidates and their parents could not only visit the building or talk to teachers but also take part in various workshops.

- We have prepared four workshops: architectural drawing, programming and robotics, there is also a maths field game prepared in Alice in Wonderland spirit. We have also prepared a fun physics workshop. The idea is to use a few simple materials to build a landing pad for an egg which will not break when dropped" Małgorzata Borysławska.

The ALO students had also encouraged candidates to study at ALO.  - I chose ALO for the non-standard types of advanced courses they offer here. For example, in the architecture class, mathematics, physics and art history are conducted at an advanced level. Therefore, if I don’t choose architecture I can still have many other options. Maths and physics at an advanced level open the door to most fields of study at the university," said Helena Kołodziejczyk, who is about to complete her first class in architecture.

The school also offers additional classes, which are conducted at the University. - For instance, I attend Chinese classes, which are completely free of charge thanks to the cooperation with the Foreign Languages Centre at the Silesian University of Technology," adds Helena Kołodziejczyk.

Students value not only the educational offer but also the atmosphere in ALO.  - This is not an ordinary school, everything is different here and more open to people. As it is a small school, it is also very individual. There are great people, a great atmosphere and a chance to develop your passions - assured Benjamin Kopiec, a student of the first class of the polytechnic profile.

- This is one of the best secondary schools in Gliwice. The offer is close to University, there are teachers from this University here, and the courses are tailored to the needs of further education. That makes the offer very interesting - said Katarzyna Babiak, who came to the Open Day with her daughter.

Martyna from Gliwice would also like to study in ALO in the future. "The school is quite small, there are only 2 classes here, so it seems interesting to me," says Martyna, who is interested in the polytechnic profile.

Every year more and more students choose the Academic Secondary School of the Silesian University of Technology. Last year it was about two candidates for one place. - What distinguishes us from other schools in Gliwice is our close relationship with the Silesian University of Technology, which is our founding body," says the school's headmistress, Małgorzata Borysławska PhD – The Rector of the University intended to make the school not too large but rather to be a good one. From the beginning there are only two classes with 26 places in each - adds the headmistress.
