Agreement of the Silesian University of Technology with State Water Holding Polish Waters and the University of Silesia

The Silesian University of Technology has signed an agreement on scientific and research cooperation with the State Water Holding Polish Waters and the research Centre for Public Competition Law and Sector Regulation at the University of Silesia. The agreement concerns cooperation in the field of interdisciplinary scientific research, as well as support for the commercialisation of the research results.

The agreement was signed by representatives of all three entities: Rector of the Silesian University of Technology Arkadiusz Mężyk Professor, President of the State Water Holding Przemysław Daca and the Director of the Research Centre for Public Competition Law and Sector Regulation at the University of Silesia Mirosław Pawełczyk PhD.

- One of the Silesian University of Technology's Priority Research Areas is climate and environmental protection and modern energy. We have much exciting research works in this area. They are also carried out together with the department of the State Water Holdings in Gliwice; this cooperation is going well. Thanks to the agreement there will be more joint activities. Students and scientists of our university will be able to carry out internships, apprenticeships and scientific-research works, thus bringing the student closer to their future work environment - this is what the rector of the Silesian University of Technology, professor Arkadiusz Mężyk said about the planned cooperation.

Przemysław Daca added that State Water Holding is an enterprise that focuses on development and needs qualified staff. In the nearest future, the company will need about a thousand experts in water management and engineering. Cooperation with the scientific community is to help in this.

- We manage the water environment, an element that causes constant problems. Sometimes there is too much of it, sometimes too little. In this region, especially in southern Poland, the water level is falling. We have been operating for four years now, we have many investments going on simultaneously, and we need innovative technologies and new solutions. We already have several plans, which we hope we will be able to implement together as soon as possible - said Przemysław Daca.

In turn, Mirosław Pawełczyk, PhD, of the University of Silesia, pointed out that joint action around water resources is crucial. Water poverty is a fact. Every authority should act against it. Looking at statistical data, access to water in Poland is one of the lowest in Europe after Malta and the Czech Republic.

The parties have committed to conduct joint educational and outreach activities by co-organising lectures, seminars, training, debates and conferences. Within the framework of the agreement implementation, it is planned to support initiatives and undertakings aimed at developing scientific awareness in the infrastructure sectors (including water management), as well as information security management. The parties will support expert activity and promote activities for scientific development, leading to innovation, competitiveness and effective knowledge transfer among the Polish academic and business community.

The Silesian University of Technology implements the agreement through the Centre for Cybersecurity. The person responsible for the execution of the contract is the Director of the Centre - Aleksander Nawrat, Professor, D.Sc.
