Agreement between the Silesian University of Technology and BASF Polska

Elaboration and development of innovative projects in the field of new technologies, training of qualified staff for the economy, exchange of experience, implementation of joint research and development projects - the Silesian University of Technology has signed a cooperation agreement with BASF Polska. This is another industry partner with which our University will cooperate.

The agreement was signed by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk and Katarzyna Byczkowska, Managing Director of BASF Polska. – This agreement is part of the general strategy of the University regarding cooperation with the socio-economic environment, with companies that are market leaders. We have been cooperating with BASF for some time, for now in the field of teaching, education, lectures and competitions. We would like to extend this scope to the implementation of research and development works, as well as to involve the company in modern education in the field of chemistry and chemical engineering - said the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk.

One of the areas that the Silesian University of Technology proposed to BASF Polska as a field for cooperation is the joint implementation of dual studies.

– The dual education model gives us the opportunity to attract the best candidates for studies, who are then the best professionals in their thematic areas. The more reputable companies participate in this program, the more attractive the field of study is for students and the more professional competences they are able to acquire - added the Rector.

BASF Polska is interested in the implementation of research and development projects in the field of sustainable development. “Given the role currently played by sustainable development and environmental protection, we are interested in cooperation in the field of renewable energy, circular economy or bio-raw materials,” said Katarzyna Byczkowska, Managing Director of BASF Polska.

The cooperation between the Silesian University of Technology and the concern has been going on for several years. Its initiator was dr hab. Eng. Nikodem Kuźnik, prof. of SUT. Initially, these were lectures with company representatives who presented the latest development trends, their technologies and key research areas.

– We also invited representatives of BASF Polska to our poster sessions, where graduates of the Faculty of Chemistry presented the results of their diploma theses. The company could get to know our research areas as well as potential employees. Our students also took part in competitions organized by BASF Polska. These were the beginnings, now we have signed a specific cooperation agreement regarding the education of students as well as scientific activities. It will be related to key research areas such as: modern materials, green technologies in the area of circular economy or hydrogen technologies - said prof. Anna Chrobok from the Faculty of Chemistry, who is responsible for the development of cooperation with a global chemical concern.
