The success of the Silesian University of Technology in prestigious ranking
Times Higher Education has announced the results of the prestigious THE World University Rankings by Subject 2026. The Silesian University of Technology was ranked in four subject areas for which it reports data: Computer Science, Physical Sciences, Business and Economics, and Engineering, achieving some of the best results among universities in Poland.
The University’s greatest success was recorded in the Business and Economics category, where it advanced from the 501–600 band to 401–500, thereby taking the highest position in Poland. A total of 1,067 universities worldwide, including 17 from Poland, were included in this category.
In the Engineering, Computer Science, and Physical Sciences categories, the Silesian University of Technology maintained its positions from last year’s edition of the ranking.
In Computer Science, the University was placed in the 601–800 band, which corresponds to second place in Poland ex aequo with the AGH University of Science and Technology and the Warsaw University of Technology. The best result in the country was achieved by the University of Warsaw, which ranked in the 301–400 band. In total, 1,165 universities worldwide, including 20 from Poland, were assessed in this category.
In Physical Sciences, the Silesian University of Technology was also ranked in the 601–800 band, taking second place in Poland, jointly with Gdańsk University of Technology and Jagiellonian University. This category included 1,497 universities worldwide, including 20 from Poland.
In the Engineering category, the Silesian University of Technology, as in the previous year, was ranked in the 801–1000 band, which places it second among Polish universities ex aequo with Opole University of Technology. A total of 1,555 universities worldwide, including 18 from Poland, were included in this subject area.
The THE World University Rankings by Subject are prepared by the British publisher Times Higher Education. In the current edition, higher education institutions were assessed across 11 subject areas: Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Computer Science, Education Studies, Engineering, Law, Life Sciences, Medical and Health, Physical Sciences, Psychology, and Social Sciences.
