Academic Secondary Comprehensive School opens its doors to the candidates

For the sixth time in the Academic Secondary Comprehensive School of the Silesian University of Technology, the Open Day took place. The candidates were shown the school by its current pupils, who also prepared workshops presenting the scientific profiles of the institution.

The Open Day was held again on Saturday. The participants of the event were greeted in the auditorium by Dr Małgorzata Borysławska, director of the Academic Secondary Comprehensive School of the Silesian University of Technology, who presented them with the most essential information about the school.

- We try every time to organize the Open Day on Saturday, when pupils together with their parents can come here without a problem - explains Dr Małgorzata Borysławska, director of the Academic Secondary Comprehensive School of the Silesian University of Technology. We want it to be created by our pupils. They guide candidates around school, they are involved in conducting workshops. We believe that they are a reliable source of information. We also want the candidates to immediately get in touch with them and to feel good when they come here.

Also in the auditorium the inaugural lecture “For the conquest of space – Start!” was held, presented by Dr Waldemar Grabowski. After that, the candidates for the school were “taken over” by the pupils. They prepared workshops for them, which were related to two profiles offered by the institution – polytechnical and architectural.

“Every science club that operates in our school tried to prepare something related to its current activity. There was a 3D printer, robot demonstrations and the ability to program your own robot. There were also workshops on physics, art history and a field game with a theme from the Lord of the Rings – says Beniamin Kopiec, a pupil of the Academic Secondary Comprehensive School.

- A lot of people who attend the robotics science club are fascinated by space and hence the idea of creating a Mars rover, with which we will soon start in the competition, and this time we presented it during the workshops - said Kamil Moszumański, a pupil of ALO ( Academic Secondary Comprehensive School).

Guests of the Open Day took advantage of the opportunity to ask questions to pupils who shared knowledge about the school itself, but also projects, competitions and many opportunities it offers.

- Candidates most often asked questions about whether teachers are demanding – says Benjamin Kopiec. - They also asked about competitions, and they were interested in the lack of the bell that marks the end of the lesson, because we just leave the class then.

On that day in ALO, together with the candidates, many parents appeared, who could ask questions about, among others, psychological and pedagogical care.

- This is a very important topic for us - says Dr Małgorzata Borysławska. Choosing a school is a family affair. We welcome the presence of parents who want to know where their children will spend the next four years. Currently, the director is obliged to hire a psychologist and a pedagogue, which results from a great need. This help is at your fingertips right now. We know this is an important topic for many parents as well and we wanted to give them the opportunity to get information about what it is like here.
