Academic Choir of the Silesian University of Technology successful in Spain!

The Academic Choir of the Silesian University of Technology gave an excellent performance at the Pau Casals Canco Mediterania festival in Lloret de Mar and Barcelona. The musicians of our University returned from Spain with two awards.

The Academic Choir of the Silesian University of Technology brought home two trophies from Spain in the youth choirs competition – first place in the folk category and second place in the sacred category. The ensemble also received a special award in the form of an invitation to a festival in Bratislava.

“I am very proud of our choir. Everyone worked hard for this achievement, rehearsing even during the summer holidays, meant they were excellently prepared for the festival,” explained the choir’s conductor, Tomasz Giedwiłło.

This was the fourteenth edition of the festival. The University’s choir had already taken part in it in 2014 - also with success.

„It is a prestigious, international event, with strong competition and a recognised jury, and is organised by Jarmoir Pyzia, originally from Poland. What makes the festival unique is that all the performances take place in a church,” added the conductor.

During their stay in Spain, the Academic Choir of the Silesian University of Technology also had the opportunity to perform in the crypt of the famous Sagrada Família church in Barcelona.

“We would like to sincerely thank the authorities of the Silesian University of Technology, headed by the Rector Marek Pawełczyk and the Vice Rector Anna Chrobok, for their constant support and confidence in our choir," said Tomasz Giedwiłło. “This success holds special importance for us, especially in the year of the 80th anniversary of both the University and our choir. We are not stopping here – ahead of us is, among other events, a performance at the Inter-University Academic Inauguration, and soon we will also be recording a Christmas carol album together with the AUKSO orchestra from Tychy.”
