A unique meeting of retired employees
On October 25th, 2025, a meeting of retired University employees took place at the Education and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology. The Rector of the Silesian University of Technology Prof. Marek Pawełczyk, and the Vice-Rector for General Affairs Bożena Skołud participated in the meeting. The main attraction of the event was a concert by Alicja Majewska.
The meeting attracted great interest. More than 700 retirees came to the ceremony - both people who have just retired and distinguished seniors. That is why the organizers decided to take two rounds of the concert. Alicja Majewska was accompanied on stage by Włodzimierz Korcz and a band of musicians. The singer was excellent and quickly established contact with the audience. On stage she presented songs from the latest album, but also her greatest hits, including “To be a woman” or “There is still a white sail.”
– This is a celebration of the pensioners and the entire Silesian University of Technology because we host people who for many years have been building the current potential and power of our University. These are many years of great achievements of the pensioners and their predecessors, but also successors who are currently working here and are trying to continue to develop this work – with these words the Rector Marek Pawełczyk welcomed the gathered. - I am glad that we can meet both academic teachers, scientific staff, administrative and technical staff. You have been with the Silesian University of Technology for many years and for that we thank you very much. We are a great community, and we strive to keep our relationships as well as possible. I wish that you can always be proud of our University and remember it as an institution where you have spent a lot of your life and you can proudly say that it was a well-invested time.
The event was also attended by the deans of the faculties of the University. After each concert, there was time for a treat. There were many memories and even emotions. This year’s event was part of the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Silesian University of Technology. However, the meeting of retired employees has a long tradition.
– The celebration of the National Education Day is an annual opportunity to meet former colleagues from work and to remember the time spent at the Silesian University of Technology. In this form, this event has been taking place since 2010. The history of meetings of retired employees, however, dates back to the seventies of the last century, when the Rector’s authorities met with pensioners in the then student cafeteria at 85, Pszczyńska Street in Gliwice at a ceremonial breakfast – explains the Head of the Social Affairs Office Elżbieta Zielińska. - I am glad that so many people have decided to accept our invitation. The main thing is that the participants enjoyed the concert. It was a unique cultural feast, and questions were already asked about who will perform next year.
