A student of the Silesian University of Technology won the world championships in Tetris
Adam Matys - a student of mathematics at the Silesian University of Technology - became the world champion in DAS Classic Tetris. The competition was held in August in Fürth, Germany.
Tetris is a puzzle-arcade game created in the 1980s. In recent years, it is gaining popularity again. It consists in arranging falling tetromines, i.e. figures composed of four squares connected together. Filling the entire row of the board causes it to be deleted and points are scored.
55 competitors from 20 countries took part in the competition.
– “The final turned out to be the most difficult. In an extremely even and exceptionally high-level duel, I won 4: 3 with German Jan Lorenz, winning the world title in DAS Classic Tetris” - said Adam Matys.
The student first encountered Tetris in 2017. He became interested in it by accident.
- “I saw the recording of the 2016 Tetris World Cup finals on the Internet. A few months later, again by accident, I saw Fin Jani Herlevi's performance at the 2017 World Cup which I found very interesting. With time, I started to watch more and more, then to play as well, until at some point I devoted almost every free moment to training. From the very beginning of my adventure with Tetris, I use the pseudonym "AdamMts" - said our student.
Adam Matys comes from Bytom, he is a second-year student of mathematics at the Silesian University of Technology. The Polish Championships in Toruń will be held in September, and the European Championships in Copenhagen in November.
