Angelika Banaś, a student of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Silesian University of Technology, received a distinction and a special distinction from DuPont in the Golden Medal of Chemistry competition for her work “Methods of obtaining and characterizing graphene materials used in the construction of electrochemical biosensors”.
In the justification about the work of a student of the Silesian University of Technology, whose scientific supervisors were Dr Hab.Eng. Katarzyna Krukiewicz, Prof. SUT and Dr Jincimol Kappen we read: "The study investigated the properties of modified graphene (reduced graphene oxide) in terms of its use in electrochemical biosensors, i.e. devices enabling early and rapid detection of diseases. It has been shown that the method of obtaining graphene materials significantly affects their properties, and thus their application values. The most optimal method for obtaining reduced graphene was selected for potential use in electrochemical biosensors.”
The Gold Medal of Chemistry competition aims to select the authors of the best undergraduate or engineering works in chemistry and related sciences. The competition is organized by the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IPC PAS) in Warsaw and DuPont. Honorary patronage over the event was taken by: Polish Chemical Society, Committee of Analytical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Prof. President of the Foundation for Polish Science Dr Hab. Maciej Żylicz.
