A Sports Day full of positive impressions

On May the 6th, the Sports Centre held the Sports Day of the Silesian University of Technology, which as always attracted hundreds of students. Dozens of activities, “Running in a helmet”, welcoming new boats, awarding medals – on that day no one complained about boredom.

The Rector of the Silesian University of Technology Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk , Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok and Vice Rector for Collaboration with Civic and Economic Environment,  Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marcin Staniek, Prof. SUT took part in the official opening of the event. In addition to artistic performances, it was also an excellent opportunity to reward the students of our University who achieved the greatest successes in the Polish Academic Championships. Our representatives brought medals from competitions in such disciplines as equestrian, shooting, or judo. The commemorative cups were handed to them by The Rector Marek Pawełczyk, who on that day had the opportunity to symbolically greet the new yachts of the sailing section of the Silesian University of Technology and reveal their names, namely Igra and Frelka.

- We welcomed two new Omega class boats at our University. Our students have been successful in sailing in recent years, but so far, the sports section used rented boats. Now they will have theirs. Sailing is a sport that gives a lot of joy, can relax. I know this because I have had the opportunity to sail a lot myself. At the same time, this sport requires a lot of ambition and I believe that these new boats will give our representatives even more motivation – explained the Rector Marek Pawełczyk, who also had the pleasure to start a the “Run in a helmet” of women, which for years has been organized throughout the country as part of the campaign “Girls to the Polytechnic” of the Perspektywy Education Foundation.

The Sports Day attracted hundreds of students who tried their hand in dozens of proposed activities. On that day, however, the results and the competition were not so important. The most important thing was having fun. Among the traditional sports, such as badminton, football and basketball, there were also various creative competitions, such as arm-wrestling or horseshoe throw. The Rector Marek Pawełczyk and Vice-Rector Anna Chrobok also tried their hand in duels with students in table tennis.

- Sports Day is always a moment when students do not have to think about studying, the upcoming examination session, but can rest and relax. In many prepared sports events, there is a lot of positive competition, smile, and joy. At the same time, during the opening ceremony, we saw how many fantastic successes they have achieved, on which I congratulate everyone. I am glad that I was here because thanks to our students I gained a lot of positive energy – emphasizes Vice-Rector Anna Chrobok.

The Director of the Sports Centre of the Silesian University of Technology Prof. Krzysztof Czapla was pleased with the attendance at the event.

- We have been organizing Sports Day for many years We try to introduce new competitions, but one thing does not change – there is always a great turnout. The proof is the competition “Run in a helmet.” It was attended by 450 female students who had previously arranged a white and red flag from helmets in the stands during the ceremonial commencement – explains Prof. Krzysztof Czapla. - Sport at the Silesian University of Technology is supposed to be something pleasant for students and we manage to do it successfully. This can also be seen from numerous successes in the Silesian Academic Championships, as well as in the Polish Academic Championships. I believe that it was a great honour for our medallists to receive congratulations from the Rector of the University.
