A new plane at the Academic Aviation Training Centre of the Silesian University of Technology
Today, the Silesian University of Technology has gained a new aircraft, and thus new, even better opportunities for educating future pilots and aviation industry experts. The centre acquired a P-mentor Tecnam plane.
The new acquisition of the Aviation Training Centre of the Silesian University of Technology will be the most modern vehicle the Centre has had so far. The official presentation of the P-mentor Tecnam aircraft took place in the hangar of the Silesian University of Technology on August 1.
- It is a single-engine, piston aircraft, certified for instrument flight. We missed such a plane. Two years ago, we purchased Tecnam 2006, a multi-engine plane for IFR flights, - said during the presentation of the vehicle. Dr Hab. Eng. Pil. Jarosław Kozuba, Prof. SUT, the head of the Academic Aviation Training Centre of the Silesian University of Technology - ATO POLSL.

The aircraft is dedicated to the aviation training market. It has been certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The new design of the wings used in this aircraft meets the requirements of EASA CS-23 regulations.

The purchased aircraft is equipped with modern technologies in avionics, and technological and technical solutions in the aircraft cabin.
- Our students spend approximately 1,200 - 1,400 hours on such aircraft each year. Therefore, this aircraft will meet half of the annual needs at the pilot training stage. We are becoming more and more independent and that makes us happy - explained Prof. Jarosław Kozuba.
The new aircraft will be used both for training pilots and students studying air navigation, but also for students of specialties such as aircraft mechanics, air traffic management and operation of ground-based civil aviation flight security systems.

- This is a plane for basic training of students. Each new piece of equipment improves teaching and provides new opportunities. In addition to pilots, students of other fields and specializations will benefit. For mechanics, it is an opportunity to learn new technologies used in this vehicle, engines, parameters, and solutions in the field of safety systems used by the manufacturer - said Prof. Dr Eng. Bogusław Łazarz, Vice-Rector for General Affairs of the Silesian University of Technology.
The new equipment is worth approximately PLN 2 million, and the purchase will be covered mainly from the Silesian University of Technology own funds.

Let us remind you that the Silesian University of Technology has a certificate that authorizes the Academic Aviation Training Centre ATO POLSL to conduct training for obtaining an airline pilot license. ATO POLSL educates future pilots at the airport in Gliwice.
