A new laboratory of the Silesian University of Technology will be built in the centre of Rybnik
On the 17th of July 2025, representatives of the authorities of Rybnik and the Silesian University of Technology held a ceremony of signing a notarial deed, under which the City of Rybnik handed over to the Silesian University of Technology a plot of land on the territory of the Rybnik Campus. It is here that the Eco-Dom Energia Laboratory will be established – a modern research unit within the project of the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Hydrogen Technologies (COZEiTW).
The event was attended by, among others, the Mayor of Rybnik – Piotr Kuczera, Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Investment of the Silesian University of Technology – Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Zbigniew Paszenda, Director of the Branch of Silesian University of Technology in Rybnik, Dr Hab Zygmunt Łukaszczyk, Prof. SUT and Deputy Director of the Branch – Dr Eng. Aldona Rosner.
Thanks to funding from the Just Transition Fund in the amount of over PLN 27 million, the project has a chance to become a development impulse for the entire region, promoting innovative energy solutions and supporting the development of hydrogen technologies.
The Eco-Dom Energia Laboratory will be a place where modern scientific research in the field of renewable energy and low-emission technologies will be conducted. This place will also serve environmental and social education and integration of academic, industrial, and local government environments.
- The establishment of the Eco-Dom Energia Laboratory is not only an investment in research infrastructure, but above all in the future – green, innovative, and responsible – said Dr. Hab Eng. Zygmunt Łukaszczyk, Prof. SUT, (Director of the Branch of the Silesian University of Technology in Rybnik). - This place will become the heart of the region’s energy transformation, combining the potential of science, industry, and local governments. Thanks to it, Rybnik gains a chance to become a leader in the field of renewable energy sources and hydrogen technologies, and residents will receive access to modern education, new jobs, and a cleaner environment. It is a step toward a city of the future – friendly to people and the planet – he added.
It is also worth noting that the Eco-Dom Laboratory is one of the four elements of a large investment, which will be financed from EU funds. As part of the project, the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Hydrogen Technologies, apart from the Eco-House Laboratory in Rybnik, the Centre of Competence for Renewable Energy sources and Hydrogen Technologies, the Hydrogen Technology Laboratory and the Mobile Laboratory for Diagnostics of Photovoltaic Panels will also be established.
Thus, the Rybnik branch of the Silesian University of Technology becomes an ideal scientific base that will be able to educate the staff of the future. Recruitment for studies is currently underway. The recruitment is conducted, among others, to the field of studies: “Sustainable Consumption and Production.”
