A Hydrogen Valley has been established in the Metropolis GZM
Representatives of universities, local governments, fuel and energy companies established Śląsko-Małopolska Dolina Wodorowa (transl. Silesian-Małopolska Hydrogen Valley) on the 31st of January, 2022. Its main objective is to take joint action to popularise hydrogen as a fuel of the future in transport and energetics.
One of the initiators of establishing the Silesian-Małopolska Hydrogen Valley is the Silesian University of Technology. A document, on behalf of the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, was signed by the Vice Rector for Infrastructure and Promotion, prof. Tomasz Trawiński.
Worldwide research shows that hydrogen can be used as a storage for energy produced from renewable sources. This is particularly important in the context of the need to transform energy system and systematically reduce the production of electricity and heat from coal. This is also a fundamental aspect of the activities of the emerging Silesian-Małopolska Hydrogen Valley.
The creation of the Valley is not only an implementation of the Polish Hydrogen Strategy, published in December last year, but also an important step towards innovation and decarbonisation of the Polish economy. It is worth mentioning that Poland is one of the leading hydrogen producers in the world. So far, hydrogen valleys have been established, among others, in Lower Silesia and Podkarpacie.
Members of the Silesian-Małopolska Hydrogen Valley are, among others, representatives of universities, energy and fuel companies, research institutes, local governments and business organisations.
