A hint of colour in the new chemistry laboratory
One of the laboratories of the Department of Chemical Organic Technology and Petrochemistry has been renovated, equipped with modern equipment and additionally enriched with colourful interior murals. The company PPG, which has been cooperating with the Silesian University of Technology for many years, is the founder of this investment worth PLN 420,000.
The laboratory is located on the third floor of the so-called New Chemistry building at Krzywoustego Street.
- The employees of our Department closely cooperate with industry. An example of such cooperation is PPG, the world's leading paint manufacturer. As a result of this cooperation, a new teaching laboratory was built for first and second degree students. The renovation was divided into two stages - at the first stage the building renovation was carried out, and at the next stage we selected fume cupboards, laboratory furniture and basic laboratory equipment, that were installed here - said Dawid Lisicki, PhD Eng. involved in the cooperation.
This investment is funded by the PPG company. According to Professor Beata Orlińska, Head of the Department of Chemical Organic Technology and Petrochemistry, within the framework of three donation agreements, PPG donated PLN 420,000 to the Department for the purchase of laboratory equipment, furniture and fume cupboards for the students' chemical laboratory as well as for its renovation.
In addition, the new laboratory received colourful murals on the walls.
The author and creator of the murals on the walls of the laboratory and the corridor is Magdalena Kapela. - I wanted to introduce a lot of intense colours, which would stimulate creativity, but also add energy. This combination of colours with laboratory objects and chemical patterns creates a coherent whole and I think it will be very motivating - said the painter.
Magdalena Olszewska from PPG stressed that PPG has been cooperating with the Silesian University of Technology for many years in various areas, e.g. in the area of education, accepting trainees or supporting grants. - Under the grants, the laboratory was renovated and equipped with additional equipment, and today, we are implementing the "colorful communities" project, which is the crowning element of this project. We bring colour into the interiors to make the students' stay in these rooms more pleasant," she said.
